Is it possible to consume too much Vitamin C and experience early or delayed periods?

While most of us are aware of when our next periods will arrive, they might occasionally surprise us by arriving early or late. Our menstrual cycle is influenced by a variety of things. Anything might cause your periods to be delayed or come early, including medicine, stress, antibiotics, and vitamin use. You may recall your mother warning you that too much vitamin C caused early periods. Is this, however, the case? Is it possible for vitamin C to cause early or late periods? Let's have a look.

Role of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is essential for overall health and well-being. It boosts our immunity, preserves our heart health, and maintains our eyesight clear and our skin radiant. People began taking vitamin C every day to improve their immunity once the pandemic began. But, does taking vitamin C regularly have any effect on the menstrual cycle? Here's the solution.

Every month, women have menstruation, which results in blood loss. As a result, iron levels are decreased. If the body's iron stores aren't replaced, it might lead to iron deficiency and, as a result, anemia. This has the potential to affect female fertility.

Iron absorption is improved by vitamin C. According to studies, those who have a deficiency in iron are also deficient in Vitamin C.

Is it possible for vitamin C to cause early or late periods?

Vitamin C can affect hormones that are vital during periods. Vitamin C can enhance estrogen levels while decreasing progesterone levels. These hormonal shifts can cause uterine contractions and the uterine lining to break down, resulting in menstruation. However, no scientific evidence exists to suggest that vitamin C can affect the menstrual cycle and cause periods to arrive earlier.

Menstrual changes

A variety of factors can cause your menstrual period to shift. The number of days in a month, which changes, is one of the most common reasons. This can throw off your periods by up to a week over time. Weight increase might also interfere with your menstrual cycle. Even severe weight loss can cause your periods to be disrupted.

Delay in periods can be caused by hormonal imbalances, birth control medications, or infections. A delay in your menstrual cycle can also be caused by too much stress, worry, or medicine.
